Advocates call for a vote on mandatory minimum sentencing

Social activists called on lawmakers to take action on the bill at their Dec. 17 session.
Over the summer, the Assembly passed a bill adopting most of the recommendation: getting rid of mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent drug and property crimes, as well as robbery and burglary crimes. But it stalled in the Senate when the Judiciary Committee approved an amendment from Sen. Nick Sacco of Hudson County to include official misconduct to the list of crimes.
