You may know me as the host of Exploration Outer Space from my Netflix show, Emily's Wonder Lab, or on the internet at the Space Gal.
I'm an aerospace engineer, and I'm here to tell you that you two can have an exciting career in science, technology, engineering, and math right here in West Virginia.
It all takes education and training.
Also all available right here in our state.
So we're going to go meet some people who are going to tell us all about it.
Because remember, the future is you.
I'm Morgan Johnson.
I'm a junior mechanical engineer at Marshall University.
I'm also an aspiring aerospace engineer.
I had my first internship when I was a freshman with Northrop Grumman.
I was a vehicle integrations engineer for their facility in California.
And, I realized this is this is exactly what I want to be doing.
It's amazing.
It's it's shocking to see how far we've come, as humanity just developing things to help us fly in the sky.
It's it's beautiful.
I, I there's no like, words I could say that can really encapsulate the feelings.
Is being in front of an F-18.
It's amazing.
That's a plane, by the way.
It's a plane, by the way.
Yeah.
Where do you think your inspiration for planes comes from?
As I was growing up throug middle school and high school, I got into robotics an I had some really great teachers at my old high school.
Shout out, had this little high school.
Who really wanted to instill in me, like, hey you should look at engineering.
I think it's a marvel to be able to move us from the ground to the sky.
So tell me, what would you say to young students, especially little girls who may want to do what you're doing today and study to work in the aerospace industry?
Go for it.
The CEO of Northrop Grumman i Kathy Ward, and she is a woman.
For me to be working for Northrop Grumman, going on my second year and will be next year.
It's it's amazing to have a CEO who is a woman and she's running it so, so well.
Like defeating any type of doubts that would be held about her.
That's important.
So if she can get there, so can you if you, if you want, if you want to do something, set your mind to it and do it.
There you have it.
There is so much out there to get excited about.
So get started today.
Ask your school counselor about STEM education, including career technical education opportunities that are available through your school.
The fields of science and technology need you and I'm telling you, the rewards are out of this world.
I'm Emily Calandrelli and until next time, remember the future is you.
