So thanks for being with us, and we've got quite a show planned for you tonight, and we hope you enjoy it.
Our special guest is an acclaimed interpreter of just about every type of American roots music, blues, early jazz, gospel, folk, country and R and B.
However, she's now comfortably settled into her favorite idiom, the blues.
During her long career, she's toured extensively worldwide.
She's also recorded 43 solo albums.
Several of her recordings have been nominated for Grammys and other awards.
She's one of the pioneers who laid the groundwork for what we now call Americana music.
She's best known worldwide for her 1973 mega hit midnight at the Oasis, which received several Grammy nominations.
But we're thrilled to have her here tonight, and she's going to bring us a little Christmas at the oasis.
Please welcome Maria muldower, thank you.
Over the years, you know, after year after year, after hearing the same old Christmas tunes, I decided to kind of dig around and try to find some alternative, not that we don't love those tunes, but some alternatives to those same old, same old Christmas tunes.
And I dug way back and came up with some wonderful blues and jazz Christmas tunes from the 20s, 30s and 40s.
It's, it's kind of like what I like to call Christmas tunes for hipsters.
And so we hope you don't mind, we're going to lay some on you this very evening.
And the first is one that was recorded by Mabel Scott, I think in the late 40s.
It's called boogie woogie Santa Claus down the track.
He's got, really, really He lives up in a mountain like a hermit in a cave.
He never had a haircut and he never took a shake.
He's a boogie woogie, Boogie Woogie Santa Claus.
He's a boogie woogie, Boogie all your Blues, right, right?
Right Jump, jump, jump, do, scream, and scream he's got no presence for your tree, no candy for your Son.
Rot, boogie, Boogie.
Santa Claus, all your balloons away.
Balloons away, Mama, get your hair, put your best dress on.
We gonna jump for joy on Christmas.
Boo Boo Boo Santa Claus.
He's a Boogie Woogie.
Any boogie on your blues Rock?
Jump, Jump.
Mr. Santa Well, look at here Jack coming down the Track.
He's got rhythm in his feet for nothing.
He's a Boogie Woogie.
All your booze away.
Well, Mama, get your hat, put your best dress on.
We're gonna jump for joy on Christmas.
Your blues away Thank you.
Thank you.
The merry bills of are ringing today, but they don't mean nothing to me.
I hear the children singing today what I'm as good as I can be.
I me, oh, Santa Claus Forgot my address.
That is something I can plainly see.
It may be Christmas to some folks.
It's just December, 25 to me, no money, no honey to buy.
A press on me, no party, no toddy.
To make things pleasant for me.
Last night, my stock and I hung just life when I was young, but this morning, there was a vacancy.
No jingling corn.
Oh no, no picking on chicken or pork tenderloin.
Seems like every now and then the poor house pages me again, bad luck.
Your hard to lose.
I got .. Christmas blues.
All flesh.
You No money, no honey to buy a present for me, no party, no daddy to make things pleasant for me.
Last night, my stock and I hung just alive when I was young, but this morning, there was a vacancy, no mingling, no jingling corn, no picking on chicken or pork tenderloin.
Soon I'll hear the new child.
That just means no hard time.
Bad luck your heart will lose.
I got the Christmas blues.

A merry christmas Baby Boy, you sure do treat me nice.
Merry Christmas, Baby Boy, you sure do treat me nice.
You bought me a diamond ring for Christmas.
Now I'm living in paradise.

I got good music on the radio.
Well, I'm feeling cool and me alone.
I got Charles brown on my stereo, and it makes me want to kiss you while you're Standing there Beneath That mistletoe, Santa came down the chimney, brought all these pretty presents that you see before me on Merry Christmas Past.

What will Santa Claus say when he finds him sing, sing, singing, whoa, down the chimney.
He's gonna creep up with his great big smile, and he's gonna find the kitties out swinging in the latest style.
What is Santa bring in?
I wonder whether he'll be singing everywhere in the land, all the kitties will be singing.
Heidi.

Isn't that fun?
All right, we're going to mellow down here for a minute and do one.
I actually got to record this with Charles brown shortly before he passed away.
It's not officially a Christmas song, but it mentions Christmas in it, so that's good enough for me.
And it's a sweet old love ballad, originally recorded by Fats Waller.
I'll send this out to all the Christmas lovers in the house tonight.
It's called G baby.
Ain't I good to you?
Love makes me treat you the way that I do.
G baby, nothing's too good for me.
That's true.
G Baby, baby, Christmas and a diamond ring, a big old Cadillac car, honey.
I'd give you anything.
Love makes me treat you the way that I do.
Gee, baby, Ain't I Could Do You It makes me treat you the way that I do.
G baby and I could do there's nothing in this old world too good for a man that's good.
Gee, baby, ain't I good to you.
